What a patina - thanks Lewis !

A while ago, I featured a picture of my rusty old garden incinerator, and mentioned that a patina like that would be for saxplayers to literally die for ! Well, here is a picture of an elderly R&C (circa 1904), enjoying the Devon sunshine, owned and photographed against a very substantial door by Lewis Pelham. What a beaut ! And the door, of course..... As always, click on the photo for a bigger version.

Axel Vincent - and the Zinner C-melody mouthpiece..

The Zinner Special C-Mel mouthpiece is featured on a blog (link) below, played on a Buescher C-Mel by a French classical oboist called Axel Vincent - it's the second sample (Grisaille) Heavy on the vibrato in this instance, but I think you'll agree, very flexible mouthpiece with an excellent dynamic range. I didn't know I had a twin brother !!

However, you may find the first sample on alto (Greensleeves) more interesting for the human angle - and the smile says it all ! Thanks for making my day, Axel .

Seems like C-Melody saxes are popular in the States !

Here is a quick glimpse of one of the new techie toys, reports of visitors, where they're from, referring sites etc. Notice how many visitors come from the USA to my humble C-Melody Sax website in the backwoods of Dorset, UK. This is just yesterday....

I've even got an entry in Wikipedia now - thanks to whoever submitted that !

Just so you don't get bored whilst I rehost...

.......the website onto UK Web.Solutions Direct, as Pipex was expensive, and the Customer Service seems to be on Vallium - judging by the response speed ! I can heartily recommend UKWSD, more bandwidth for less dosh, and lots of techie toys to play with. Anyway, here's a picture of Ace (the collie) and her mate Holly (the lab). People who don't like dogs should look away now.

And so as not to forget my daughters dog, George - the Lakeland terrier who thinks he's a Rottweiler (and I'm not going to tell him otherwise, certainly not while he's looking at my dangly bits...) - here are George and Ace striking a very similar pose.

So can anyone post to this blog by email ?

Yes, within reason. From this screen you can't create new topics, unless you're me - but you can comment on existing ones. But (and it's a BIG 'but') you can post new topics by email, directly to this Blog - the email title comes up as the title, with the complete body of the email as the posting - so you might want to remove any footers (like addresses and other personal info) ........ Great for posting little nuggets of info, or, better still, good jokes ! I reserve the right to remove inappropriate postings, naturally.

Please email me (click here) if you want the 'posting' email address for the blog, obviously I can't just publish it here - I'd get spammed to death ! And if anyone would like to be included as a main contributor, maybe you'd like to publish detailed topics from time to time and don't need the hassle of your own blog - it could easily be arranged, free, of course..

Yes - this blog has been a quiet place recently....

Owen (and the other anonymous poster - are you the only visitors ?)... Disappointing that I haven't had much time recently (half-term, family, rampant garden, and the need to earn a little bit of the folding stuff, etc...) to update the blog, or indeed my website.

Set to change soon, but this "Google Blog" isn't the fastest/easiest or the most reliable, so, as I'm looking for a new website 'hosting' package with more capacity, I've earmarked one that has blog options, then maybe I can have more control - and not be reliant on free offerings ! Still under consideration.

I decided to post this, together with a picture of the only thing I've been really playing (with) recently, this rusty old incinerator, with waiting pile........... Now, what would you say about a sax with a patina like that old incinerator ? Luvverly !! Maybe I should put some cork on the spout, and slap on the Lawton - probably have a similar smell to most C-mels I've encountered - click on the images if you really want a bigger picture !
